Recent work on RNA metabolism during germination of radish seeds is reviewed with special emphasis on the possible regulatory mechanisms involved in the control of germination. Attention is focused on (a) the characteristics of stored mRNA and its fate during germination, (b) the time of synthesis of rRNA and polyadenylated RNA and on possible controls at the level of processing of pre-rRNA, and (c) determination of turnover of mRNA, turn-over of poly(A) and changes in turn-over associated with development.
