We investigate the behaviour of a fluid mixture of spherical and rodlike particles flowing in a two-dimensional Hele Shaw cell. Using isokinetic molecular dynamics with soft repulsive forces between the particles, we find a new kind of phase segregation: when the driving force exceeds a certain threshold, rod-rich and rod-poor regions appear and align along the direction of the flow. The rheology of this new steady-state situation is non-Newtonian-like and the velocity profile is very unusual.
