L-IFPTA vaccine safely induces anti-PCSK9 antibodies and reduces PCSK9-LDLR binding by ~33% in macaques.
Why the study?
Following safe preventive and therapeutic effects in mouse atherosclerosis models, the immunogenicity and safety of the L-IFPTA vaccine needed evaluation in healthy non-human primates.
Does the L-IFPTA vaccine induce functional antiPCSK9 antibodies and demonstrate safety in healthy non-human primates?
Does the L-IFPTA vaccine induce functional antiPCSK9 antibodies and demonstrate safety in healthy non-human primates?
The L-IFPTA antiPCSK9 vaccine safely induces functional antibodies in non-human primates, providing preclinical support for its development in lipid management.

Supports further L-IFPTA development; leaves open translation to human lipid management trials.
Momtazi‐Borojeni et al. (2021) studied Healthy (n=5). L-IFPTA vaccine vs. Pre-vaccination baseline was evaluated on AntiPCSK9 antibody titer (ODmax/2) at week 8. The L-IFPTA vaccine significantly induced the generation of functional antiPCSK9 antibodies (mean titer 1:19,460) and reduced PCSK9 binding to LDLR by 33% in healthy rhesus macaques without causing organ injury.
