Development and time of death was studied in intergeneric centrarchid crosses between the fishes: Pomoxis nigromaculatus (Lesueur), black crappie; Chaenobryttus gulosus (Cuvier), warmouth; Lepomis macrochirus Rafinesque, bluegill; and Micropterus salmoides (Lacepede), largemouth bass. Hybridization experiments were conducted using artificial techniques of stripping, fertilization, and incubation. Fertilization, hatching percentages, and developmental data of hybrid crosses may be summarized in four categories: 1) High success reciprocally in Micropterus X Chaenobryttus; 2) Marginal success reciprocally in Pomoxis X Lepomis and Chaenobryttus X Pomoxis; 3) High success one-way in Micropterus ♀ X Lepomis ♂ and Chaenobryttus ♀ X Lepomis ♂; 4) Unsuccessful reciprocally in Micropterus X Pomoxis. Early development and emergence were found to be critical developmental periods. Photomicrographs of cross results are included.
