About 40 individuals and representatives of organizations involved in organ transplantation attended the June "Surgeon General's Workshop on Solid Organ Procurement for Transplantation: Educating the Physician and the Public." Workshop discussion groups focused on such issues as guidelines for multiple-organ harvesting from cadavers, overcoming barriers to donation of organs for small children, physician and public education programs, systems for minimizing organ wastage, and other ways to increase the supply of badly needed donor organs.
