Twonew sesquiterpene alcohols, 1 and 2, were isolated from a culture filtrate of Aspergillus oryzae.The structures of these compoundswere deduced on the basis of their spectral evidence and synthesis of one of them.In the course of isolation of the sporogenic substances from Aspergillus oryzae, the authors had isolated two new sesquiterpene alcohols, 1 and 2, which are biogenetically interesting compounds.The authors nowreport the structural elucidation of these sesquiterpenes and synthesis of one of them.The elemental composition of the compound (1), C15H26O, [afD4 +4.4° (c 0.14, CHC13), was established by high resolution mass spectrometry.Its IR (KBr) and 360 MHz XHNMR(£, CDCI3) data showed the presence of a tertiary methyl carbinol [C(OH)-CH3, 3400 cm"1; 1.38 (3H, s)], an exocyclic methylene group [C=CH2, 1630 and 900 cm"1;
