Summary. Salmonella choleraesuis was examined for growth in selenite, tetrathionate, brilliant green‐MacConkey and nutrient broths. Six strains of Salm. choleraesuis and 8 of Salm. choleraesuis var. kunzendorf were used. Selenite and tetrathionate broths failed to allow growth, especially when the inoculum was small. A modified tetrathionate broth in which half the normal amount of iodide was added was similar to nutrient broth, and brilliant green‐MacConkey broth was also highly effective. The number of organisms required to establish growth in selenite broth was 10 3 −10 5 .
