Silicon surfaces with nanoporous and bulk-Si domains are accessible by soft lithographic processes based on microcontact printing. The nanoporous areas can be further modified—also biochemically—by calcium phosphate deposition (see Figure for a patterned sample). Both nanoporous Si and the calcium phosphate-covered material are biocompatible and interesting for implants that release drugs over extended periods of time.
