Laser-diode pumped continuous-wave (cw) laser performance of a new class Nd:LuxGd1-xVO4 crystals at 1.34 μm was demonstrated for the first time to our knowledge. A maximum output power of 2.25 W was obtained at the incident pump power of 11.96 W with x = 0.14, giving the corresponding optical conversion efficiency of 18.8%. Efficient emission cross-sections of the mixed crystals were calculated for different x. The influence of Lu composition x on the variations of laser performance and emission cross-section was also discussed.
