Theoretical framework reveals a calcium-STAT3 pathway in temperature-dependent sex-determining species, suggesting TRP channels act as molecular thermal switches.
We suggest three steps to test the hypothesis that the transient receptor potential channels may respond to temperature changes, increasing the intracellular calcium concentration and triggering the phosphorylation of STAT3, which subsequently regulates male and female sex determination pathways in temperature-dependent sex determination species.
