Observations are described from which it is inferred that the air flowing over small hills (1,000 ft high) may even in the cirrus levels suffer vertical displacements of 2,000 ft or more, which cause the formation of clouds able to travel away from the hills, and may be responsible for a diurnal variation in cirrus frequency.
