Retention indices have been determined for steroids on six columns and have been expressed as ΔI values related to SE-30 as standard stationary phase. Application of the method to the identification of a compound of unknown structure has been outlined. The term ΔI (r) defined as the change in retention index caused by reaction of a compound has also been illustrated.
