Facile Route to Highly Fluorescent 9,10-Bis(p-R-phenylethynyl)anthracene Chromophores via Palladium-Copper Catalyzed Cross-Coupling

All articles of this category A series of 9,10-bis(p-R-phenylethynyl)anthracenes ( 6a-h ) have been prepared in good yields via Pd(II)/Cu(I)-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of para-substituted phenylethynes ( 4a-h ) and 9,10-diiodoanthracene ( 5 ). Similarly, 1,4-bis(9-ethynylanthracenyl)benzene ( 8 ) and 4,4′-bis (9-ethynylanthracenyl)biphenyl ( 9 ) were obtained from coupling reactions of 9-iodoanthracene ( 7 ) with 1,4-diethynylbenzene and 4,4′-diethynylbiplienyl respectively.
