Characteristic Raman bands for phthalate esters have been established from a study of 21 compounds. The characteristic bands resulting primarily from within the ortho-phenylene group are compared with corresponding bands and assignments for ortho-dichlorobenzene. The data for phthalate esters are summarized in a correlation chart.
