The damaging effects of Co60 gamma-ray exposures up to 109 R on the responsiveness of thermoluminescent dosimeters employing CaF2: Mn or LiF as the phosphor were investigated for the purpose of establishing limitations on the applicability of these dosimeters for repeated use. Permanent damage in the gamma-ray responsiveness of the LiF phosphor was observed for exposures of the order of 104 R, while the onset of appreciable permanent damage in the CsF2: Mn phosphor was nearly four decades greater in exposure.
