Raman‐based laser diagnostics for combustion temperature and major species measurements in propulsion development test facilities are discussed. Focus is primarily directed toward multi‐color, coherent anti‐Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) techniques for simultaneous multiple species capability and ultraviolet spontaneous Raman scattering vis‐a‐vis its utility for hydrocarbon‐fueled combustor testing. Field instruments employed for feasibility demonstrations and measurement programs are described.
