The new solid-state alkali metal gold thiocadmates Cs2Au2Cd2S4, Rb2Au2Cd2S4, and K2Au4CdS4 photoluminesce brightly. Their interrelated polymeric structures are formed by the linking of the [CdS2]2− and [CdS4]6− anions by gold atoms (see figure).
