7 subjects (mean age of 27 yr.) who complained of chronic pain symptoms were compared to seven age- and sex-matched controls on the following variables: number of physical symptoms, Type A tendency (Glazer Stress Control scores), and over-all stress (Social Readjustment Rating Scale scores). The pain subjects showed significantly more physical symptoms and greater Type A tendencies than controls but did not differ on over-all stress.
