Systematic review and meta-analysis synthesizes liquid molecular biomarker responses in occupationally exposed cohorts, highlighting mitochondrial DNA and microRNA utility for exposure biomonitoring.
This repository contains the final analytical dataset and R code supporting the systematic review “Liquid Molecular Biomarkers in Occupational Biomonitoring: A Systematic Review and Quantitative Synthesis of Cell-Free DNA, Mitochondrial DNA Copy Number, Circulating microRNAs, and Extracellular Vesicles”. The dataset contains the study-level and cohort-level information used for the quantitative and structured syntheses of mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn), circulating microRNAs (miRNAs), cell-free DNA (cfDNA), and extracellular vesicle/exosome biomarkers in occupationally exposed human populations. The accompanying R script reproduces the principal quantitative analyses, including the exploratory mtDNAcn random-effects meta-analysis, exposure-family analyses, sensitivity analyses, heterogeneity statistics, funnel-plot and Egger assessments, and the signed weighted Stouffer synthesis and sensitivity analyses for recurrent miRNAs. The final review evidence base comprises 134 included publications mapped to 95 cohort units. The mtDNAcn quantitative synthesis includes 14 cohort-level contributions in the extended exploratory analysis and 8 cohorts in the direct mean/standard-deviation sensitivity analysis. The systematic review was registered in PROSPERO (CRD420261473035).
