The existence in solution of η 5 /η 1 isomers of the beryllocenes Be(C 5 Me 5 ) 2 and Be(C 5 Me 4 H) 2 is inferred from the results of their reaction with CNXyl to give iminoacyl products. The process is reversible and involves coupling of a Be−η 1 -Cp‘ group with the isocyanide.
