Variation in the impedance components during passivation of titanium in NaOH, Na2SO4 and H2SO4 were examined at frequencies ranging from 0.2 to 15.0 kHz. The effect of surface pretreatment was investigated. Analysis of the results has shown that the dependences of the resistance and capacitance on frequency do not conform with Young's theory except to limited extents depending on experimental conditions. Mott-Schottky plots indicate that the passive film contains a continuous distribution of donor states. In all cases, electrolyte ion incorporation is present.
