Results of laboratory studies on the effect of temperature on surface oxygen transfer are presented. The measured K2 values are calculated based on the DO response curves while predicted KL or K2 values are calculated using the equation proposed by O'Connor and Dobbins for the experimental conditions. Both the measured and the predicted K2 values indicate that an increasing K2‐temperature relationship is observed when the flow velocity is maintained at 2.8 cm/s. Using the same reaeration equipment and methodology, and with the flow velocity reduced to 1.3 cm/s, the K2‐temperature curve shows an initial increasing but then decreasing relationship versus temperature. When the flow velocity is decreased to 0.8 cm/s, the K2‐temperature displays a decreasing tendency with increasing temperature. Results obtained in this experiment support the writers' interpretation of O'Connor's and Dobbins' equation and demonstrate that the surface oxygen transfer decreases for increasing temperature under conditions of low turbulance.
