The X-ray photoelectron spectrum of the 4 s level of bromine has been found to consist of two separate lines in various metal-bromides. The doublet nature of the Br 4 s line is attributed to the configuration interaction between the 4 s 4 p 6 state and the two-electron-excited states like 4 s 2 4 p 4 5 s , 4 s 2 4 p 4 5 p , and 4 s 2 4 p 4 4 d . The spectral feature of the doublet is different to some extent among the bromides of different metals.
