Key result
Longer cross-clamp time and higher NYHA class predict worse 3-year survival after small-prosthesis AVR.
Why the study?
What are the prognostic factors for 3-year survival in patients undergoing aortic valve replacement with a small (21 mm) Medtronic-Hall prosthesis?
Population
80 patients who underwent aortic valve replacement with a small (21 mm) Medtronic-Hall prosthesis
Design

What are the prognostic factors for 3-year survival in patients undergoing aortic valve replacement with a small (21 mm) Medtronic-Hall prosthesis?
Preoperative NYHA class and aortic cross-clamp time are significant prognostic factors for survival following aortic valve replacement with a small prosthesis.
Abdelnoor et al. (1986) conducted a cohort in Narrow aortic roots requiring aortic valve replacement (n=80). Prognostic factors (aortic cross-clamp time and preoperative NYHA class) was evaluated on 3-year survival. Aortic cross-clamp time and preoperative NYHA class were significant prognostic factors for 3-year survival (ranging from 92% to 45%) after aortic valve replacement with a small prosthesis.
