Field observations of Emmenanthe on chaparral burns in California suggest modification of Tadros' (1957) interpretation of serpentine response. The exclusion of E. penduliflora from serpentine soils is relative, not absolute; and both E. penduliflora and E. rosea on serpentine are strongly affected by fire.
