A substitutional relaxation peak has been investigated in an iron-22.5% chromium alloy by a free-decay internal-friction technique in an evacuated inverted-torsion pendulum. An activation energy of 53.0 ± 2 kcal/mole was measured and a τ0 (pre-exponential factor) value of 10−14.4 was calculated. It is thought that the cr phase plays no part in the relaxation process.
