A method for the estimation of γ‐aminobutyric acid (GABA) in brain tissue using gas‐liquid chromatography is described. The method is based on the formation of an electron‐capturing derivative of GABA by treatment with 1,1,1,3,3,3‐hexafluoroisopropanol and trifluoroacetic anhydride under mild conditions. The method is comparatively simple and shows high specificity and sensitivity.
