In order to clarify the oxidation behavior of binary alloys, the oxidation of Ni‐Al alloys was studied. Oxidation rates were measured by means of a vacuum microbalance over the temperature range of 700°–900 °C. The rate data of all specimens were found to follow the parabolic rate law. Oxide films were examined by means of metallographic, x‐ray diffraction, and electron diffraction methods. Quantitative chemical analysis of oxide films stripped from basis alloys was carried out in order to determine oxidized amounts of nickel and aluminum. The change of the composition of alloy surfaces was investigated by measuring lattice parameters of alloy surfaces before and after oxidation. On the basis of these results the oxidation of alloys is discussed.
