A discharge tube suitable for the excitation of band spectra of the hydrides of refractory metals which do not appear well in a vacuum arc, is described. The spectrum of manganese hydride, MnH, is described; bands have been observed in the red, yellow-green, green, blue, and blue-violet regions of the spectrum. Vibrational quantum numbers are assigned to the bands. The spectrum of MnH is briefly discussed in relation to the spectra of CaH, CrH, FeH, CoH, NiH, CuH, and ZnH.
