The Polarization of Emission Lines in Astronomy. II. Prominence Emission-Line Polarization and Prominence Magnetic Fields.

Sixteen observations of plane polarization in prominence Ha were obtained during March and May, 1964. These preliminary observations of polarization indicate that there are two general types of quiescent prominences. Coherent time variations in prominence magnetic fields over a solar cycle would be expected of one of these types but not of the other. The polariscope and the results are discussed. The main conclusion is that prominence emission-line polarization should be studied throughout a solar cycle.
