The paper presents an analysis of test measurements of airplane motion and strain responses for a large swept-wing airplane in flight through rough air. Power spectral methods are employed in order to provide an indication of the frequency composition of the various responses and, in this way, to determine the contribution of the various airplane rigid-body and elastic-body modes to the strain responses. The airplane rigid-body motions (pitch and vertical velocity) and elastic-body motions (deflections and twists) are examined in detail in order to assess the magnitude of the aerodynamic forces arising from these motions.
