A diolate-bridged Fe 12 member of the “ferric wheel” class of molecular wheels has been obtained to complement the known MeO - -bridged members such as the prototypical Fe 10 wheel; reaction of these Fe 10 and Fe 12 ferric wheels with N-based chelates has given Fe 4 and Fe 12 molecular rectangles and squares, respectively.
