ReRe double bonds characterize complexes 1 and 2. Complex 3 contains a triple bond. In all cases, the Re2O2 rings are planar. Comparison of these complexes with the Cp* analogue 4 does not answer the question why 4 exhibits no ReRe bond. L = 1,4,7-triazacyclononane.
