Experimental studies show that the fatigue of polymer-supported film starts from the interface and is due to the evolution of vacancy concentration. Based on the experimental results, a multi-scale damage model is established to bridge the evolution of microscopic defects and the degradation of macroscopic mechanical properties. The length-scale-effect investigation found that the fatigue life of the polymer-supported film will gradually increase with the decrease of grain size to film thickness ratio (d/h). It concludes that the proposed model is valid, and d/h is an essential factor affecting the polymer-supported film’s fatigue life.
