We have investigated the formation of polymer walls in higher polymer content cholesteric liquid crystal formulations.1 The mechanism of polymer wall formation including phase separation and polymer diffusion are complex. We found that it is possible to regulate the polymer wall morphology by controlling the photopolymerization process. The polymer wall density increases with increasing concentration of monomer(s) in the mixture. Also, the temperature, UV light intensity, exposure time, and the ratio of the exposure area and the masked area all affect the wall formation process.
