Newly established FaDu hypopharyngeal carcinoma cell line demonstrates a 50-hour doubling time and viral susceptibility.
May facilitate in vitro hypopharyngeal carcinoma research; leaves open clinical translation and virus applications.
A human epithelial cell line, FaDu, from a squamous cell carcinoma of the hypopharynx has been isolated and established from a patient from Calcutta, India. The cell line has a population doubling time of approximately 50 hours. Ultrastructural observation reveals the presence of bundles of tonofilaments in the cells and desmosomal regions distributed at the boundaries of adjacent cells. The cell line is susceptible to infection by some RNA- and DNA-containing viruses.

S. R. S. Rangan (1972) studied Squamous cell carcinoma of the hypopharynx (n=1). FaDu cell line isolation and characterization was evaluated on Cell line characteristics (doubling time, ultrastructure, viral susceptibility). A new human epithelial cell line, FaDu, was established from a hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, demonstrating a 50-hour doubling time and susceptibility to certain RNA and DNA viruses.
