Of 110 consecutive patients given cyclosporin, azathioprine and prednisolone triple therapy after renal transplantation, 6 had a renal vein thrombosis and 2 a renal artery thrombosis. This contrasts with 1 renal vein 1 one renal artery thrombosis in 429 patients treated with azathioprine and prednisolone (365 patients) or cyclosporin alone (64 patients). This high incidence of thrombosis may be related to the use of cyclosporin in a triple therapy protocol. The complex effects of cyclosporin on hemocoagulation are discussed.
