mester. We conducted an analysis stratified by whether women also filled a prescription for oral ondansetron, the hypothesis being that women who receive both are likely to be exposed to higher cumulative doses and for an extended period. In the subgroup of women who received only intravenous administration, the RR of oral clefts was 0.88 (95% CI, 0.50-1.55).In the subgroup of women who received both forms of administration, the RR was 1.07 (95% CI, 0.59-1.93).Although the point estimate for the group who received both oral and intravenous ondansetron is close to the null, it should be noted that the estimate is imprecise, as evidenced by the width of the 95% CI.Although we cannot directly assess the effect of dose or duration of intravenous treatment, we can conclude from our data that based on current patterns of use, intravenous ondansetron in routine care does not appear to be a major teratogen.
