Hypothesis-generating for G6PD in pressure-overload hypertrophy; leaves open any translational role in human remodeling.
In a rat model of cardiac hypertrophy, aortic coarctation increases myocardial glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity, a process inhibited by cycloheximide, suggesting a link to RNA and protein synthesis.
Valadares et al. (1969) studied Cardiac hypertrophy. Aortic coarctation vs. Control was evaluated on Myocardial glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity. Aortic coarctation in rats increased myocardial glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity to more than 200% of control values at 6 days, an effect significantly inhibited by cycloheximide.
