Four new explosives with heteroaromatic structure were obtained by methylaminolysis of suitable intermediates and subsequent nitration: 2‐methylnitramino‐3,5‐dinitropyridine (2‐MNP), the isomeric 4‐methylnitramino‐3,5‐dinitropyridine (4‐MNP), the tetranitro compound 2,6‐bis(methylnitramino)‐3,5‐dinitropyridine (2,6‐BMNP) and the triazine derivative 2,4,6‐tris(methylnitramino)‐1,3,5‐triazine (TMNT). This paper describes synthesis, the characterization by IR and NMR spectroscopy, and the thermal behaviour of these compounds. Their density and detonation velocity as well as the results from sensitivity tests are given.
