In the large deflexion of thin plates with free edges, boundary layers develop along those edges under certain conditions. The non-linear effects of membrane stress are confined to the boundary layers and elsewhere the equations are linear. Boundarylayer equations are derived and integrated, and are then applied to some specific problems.
