The essential oil from the bark of balsam fir Abies balsamea (L.) Mill, which was obtained by hydrodistillation (3 h) was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The major constituents obtained were: α-pinene (25.8%), β-pinene (27.3%), β-phellandrene (23.1%) and limonene (9.2%). Twenty-one minor components were also identified. The yield of oil relative to fresh bark varied between 0.43% and 0.45% (w/w).
