The trajectory-tracing process has been used, with an improved mathematical model of the magnetosphere containing magnetic fields of both internal and external origin, to calculate cutoff rigidities for electrons and protons incident at Fort Churchill, Canada. These calculations, made for the vertical direction and at zenith angles of 60°E and 60°W at each hour of the day, give cutoff values of approximately 150 Mv during the daytime and less than 20 Mv at night. These values are in qualitative agreement with measurements obtained by balloon experiments.
