Pre-contrast CT reveals lower myocardial density of ~30 HU and diffuse thickening in cardiac amyloidosis.
Why the study?
Characteristic computed tomographic appearances of histologically confirmed cardiac amyloidosis were not well described.
Case Report (n=2)
Low myocardial density on pre-contrast CT and diffuse myocardial thickening on post-contrast CT are characteristic imaging features of cardiac amyloidosis.

May prompt amyloid consideration on incidental CT; leaves open prospective validation before diagnostic adoption.
Sekiya et al. (1984) conducted a case report in Cardiac amyloidosis (n=2). Computed tomography vs. Diffuse hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and normal myocardium was evaluated on Mean myocardial density on pre-contrast computed tomograms. Computed tomography revealed significantly lower pre-contrast myocardial density (~30 HU) and diffuse myocardial thickening in patients with cardiac amyloidosis compared to normal myocardium.
