A description is given of four species of the ascomycetous genus Ceratocystis isolated from different species of the tree‐genus Nothofagus in Chile. Two of these are described as new species based on the characteristics of their ascospores, ascocarps and conidial states in culture. Ceratocystis piceae (Münch) Bakshi and C. pilifera (Fries) C. Moreau were responsible for important blue‐stain in timber of Nothofagus pumilio (Poepp. et Endl.) Krasser; Ceratocystis nothofagi Butin sp. nov. and C. valdiviana Butin sp. nov. were found in native stands of different species of Nothofagus causing less intensive discoloration in bark and wood of dead trees.
