Living, regioselective copolymerization of ethylene with dicyclopentadiene was achieved. Alternate ethylene/dicyclopentadiene copolymers with narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn < 1.15) and novel diblock copolymers with semicrystalline PE block and amorphous alternate poly(ethylene-co-dicyclopentadiene) block were first prepared. These copolymers are promising candidates for effective functionalization. Unprecedented functional diblock copolymers with both nonpolar PE block and polar epoxy or hydroxyl groups containing block were easily synthesized.
