Two reports, one previously published in Science (Gong and Nussenzweig, 19 April, p. 411 ) and one in this week's issue (Torres et al ., p. 1804 ), report the surprising phenotypes of genetically engineered (knockout) mice missing the Ig-alpha and Ig-beta accessory proteins of the B cell antigen receptor.
