Since mid-October 2023, Chinese health authorities have reported increasing childhood respiratory illnesses, predominantly in northern regions. While officials attribute this to lifted COVID-19 restrictions and usual winter pathogens, undiagnosed pneumonia clusters noted in media warrant scrutiny amidst global interconnectedness.
