The relative trigonometric parallax we have measured for ESO 207-61 confirms its predicted very low luminosity. From southern CCD observations we find pirel = 0.0504 sec +/- 0.0026 sec giving absolute magnitudes of MV = 19.50 +/- 0.15, MK = 10.72 +/- 0.12, and Mbol = 13.88 +/- 0.27. It is one of the faintest objects found to date and has a spectral type of M9 on the Boeschaar system. Its evolutionary status is discussed, and we compare it with other objects near the stellar/substellar boundary; owing to the difficult problem of effective temperature calibration for such cool objects comparisons with stellar models are of limited value.
