Entropy of intercalation compounds. II. Calorimetry of electrochemical cells of the Chevrel compound LixMo6Se8for 0⩽x⩽4

For pt.I see ibid., vol.19, p.5121 (1986). The authors describe the first calorimetric measurements of the entropy of an intercalation compound. A lattice gas model of intercalation describes the variation of ( delta s/ delta x) T with x in Li x Mo 6 Se 8 for x 1, ( delta s/ delta x) T shows features associated with phase transitions, and the shape of these features distinguishes continuous transitions from first-order transitions.
